What is online poker?
Online poker are poker games played over the internet. Online poker has been one of the factors responsible for the huge increase in the number of poker players worldwide. Free online poker started being played in the late 90s through IRC poker. Planet Poker was the first online card game room to offer the possibility to play real money games via the web in 1998. The first real money online poker game was played on January 1, 1998. The rules are identical to of normal poker played in casinos, only the dealer is a machine and not a person. The cards are shuffled and distributed randomly by the computer, using decks identical to the poker played in casinos. The mechanism of the game works in the same way, with the player placing his bet according to his possibilities, having buttons that allow the player to place his bet, making a raise, call, check, all in or fold.
Real life poker and online poker
Traditional places to play poker, such as casinos and poker rooms, can be intimidating for new players and often these places are far from home. Traditional casinos are also reluctant to promote poker games because it is difficult for them to do their promotion. The opportunity costs of having a legal poker room are very high, which leads casinos to remove poker tables and replace them with slot machines. Online poker is, on the contrary, much cheaper because it has much lower maintenance costs.
For example, adding a table in a casino can be costly, but adding a new table online is easy and cheap. The online poker game has other advantages as it allows you to play with low stakes and you can even play poker online for free, thus attracting new players. The feeling of playing poker online is different from the feeling of playing live poker, as there is no direct and personal eye contact with opponents, which can be a strategic factor for many players. Playing poker online, on the other hand, has the advantage of being able to play anytime, anywhere, with any opponent, just needing to have a computer or other device that allows you to access the internet and poker games. Online poker can be more vulnerable to some types of fraud and problems, especially the collision between players, however sites that allow you to play online poker have mechanisms that detect these problems and easily remove these players, and there is also no risk of someone see our game, as can happen in physical casinos. So it can be concluded that both real-life and online poker have advantages and disadvantages, however although real-life poker is more emotional, online poker is easier and cheaper to play, so it is a better option, especially for those just starting out.
Different types of poker
Poker is a card game that can have some variations, with the four most popular being Texas HoldEm, Omaha, Omaha High-Low and 7-Card Stud. Texas HoldEm is the most popular in the world of real and online poker. It can be played in three different ways: Limit Hold'em: here bets are settled before the start of the game, with bets being limited. Pot Limit Hold'em: Here you can raise your bet up to the maximum limit of the amount found in the pot. No Limit Hold'em: In this game, you can bet all your chips at any time.
In Texas HoldEm, each player receives two cards. Then five cards are displayed on the table (3 + 1 + 1). Each hand consists of the combination of the five cards most favorable to your game out of the seven that you have at your disposal. At the beginning of the game, before the cards are dealt, two bets are made, the Small Blind and the Big Blind, which are placed on the table by the players who are to the left of the dealer, being identified for having a chip with the name “dealer”. After each player receives both cards, the player to the left of the Big Blind is the first to speak. Each player can then fold, call or raise in the first round. At the end of that first round the dealer places three cards visible to everyone on the table, which is called the flop.
Then the second round begins and this time it is the player sitting to the left of the dealer chip. He can raise (bet) or simply check (pass) if no one has bet. When a player bets, no one else can check, they can only call (call), raise over raise (raise over raise) or simply fold (fold). After the end of this round, the dealer places another card visible to everyone on the table, called the turn. Then the third round begins. In the game “Limit Hold’Hem” the bet doubles on the turn and the player sitting to the left of the dealer chip starts again. The dealer then places the last card on the table, thus following the last round. When that last round is over, the last player to open or bet is the one who must show the game. If he has the best combination (best game) he wins all the chips that are in play. If you don't have the best game, then whoever has the best game shows the cards and takes all the chips, while others are not required to show their game. There is yet another version of the online poker game, called video poker. This game is very similar to what is played on a console similar to the slot machine in casinos or gambling houses. It is based on a game called five-card draw poker. The game starts with a bet of one or more credits and then pressing the “deal” button. The player receives five cards and has the opportunity to discard one or more cards in exchange for others also randomly drawn by the computer. After the draw, the player wins if his hand has one of the possible combinations, with different prizes. The minimum winning hand in video poker is the pair of jacks, unlike table poker, which is any pair. Besides, the combinations are the same as in table poker.
Online Poker in Brazil
Brazil is one of the countries that has produced some of the best poker players in the world. Despite this, the Brazilian government has not yet legalized gambling or internet poker games (online), but that does not prevent Brazilian players from competing on international poker sites. The Brazilian government has been debating the legalization of gambling, a group that includes online poker. In 2011 a bill came out in Brazil that aimed to legalize sports betting, but that bill denied bettors to use transactions through banks for payments linked to the game, but even so there are other payment options that allow Brazilian players to continue playing poker online on many poker game sites. It is not known, however, how long it will continue to be illegal to play online poker in Brazil, but in the meantime, the Texas Hold'em community remains steady and growing.
General rules for evaluating winning poker hands
Cards are valued in descending order as follows: A, K, Q, J, 10, 9, 8, 7, 6, 5, 4, 3, 2 and A if it is part of the lowest sequence (eg A-2-3-4-5) . When there is no combination or to compare the kicker of hands that would be equivalent, the individual card ranking is used. The suits have no value, that is, they are all worth the same. The ranking of combinations in ascending order is as follows: 10th - high card; 9th - pair; 8th - two pairs; 7th - trio; 6th - sequence; 5th - color; 4th - Full House; 3rd - poker; 2nd - sequence of the same suit; 1st - real sequence.
In conclusion, online poker is the best option for those who want to start in the world of poker, as it allows them to play for free or with low values and anyone can start earning some money in the world of poker without needing to invest, just needing to have over 18 years. In Brazil, gambling legislation, where poker is included, is still very strict, which makes many people afraid to start playing. However, as nowadays poker is a “fashion game”, especially among the youngest, this means that more and more young people enter this world, often influenced by friends, social networks and internet advertising. However, you need to be careful when you start playing and you should understand how the game and its surroundings work, never being sure that you will win money quickly because for someone to win, others will have to lose
